The Bay Tales team writes:
Earlier this year we were thrilled to be joined by Fiona Cummins on the Pan Macmillan panel at Bay Tales Live 2023.
Fiona talked about her new book All of Us Are Broken, which was scheduled for release in Hardback in July of this year. Well, now it’s out and reviewers and authors alike have been raving about it.
David Baldacci called it ‘a master class in suspense. . . An adrenaline ride with several layers of profound substance’, Vaseem Khan says it’s ‘a modern retelling of Bonnie and Clyde‘ and Louise Candlish writes Fiona Cummins evokes the dark arts of journalism and politics with an insider’s relish in this rich, intricately woven novel of childhood crime and adult redemption. I finished it with my heart in my mouth. Highly recommended
Here’s what the publishers say about the book on the Pan Macmillan website:
The Family
After a year they want to forget, the Hardwicke family set out to the Scottish Highlands for a much needed holiday.
The Crimes
They are about to cross paths with a violent and dangerous young couple hell-bent on infamy, their love story etched in blood and a dark past which must be uncovered.
The Detective
As the clock ticks down, Detective Saul Anguish is on the hunt to find the couple before more lives are lost.
The Mother
– who will be forced to make an impossible decision.

This has been my favourite book of 2023 … to date. It is going to take something HUGE to knock this book off of the top!
Ok readers! Prepare to be utterly shattered, emotionally stripped bare, and relentlessly captivated by Fiona Cummins’ hauntingly evocative novel, “All of Us Are Broken.” This book is not just a story; it’s an immersive experience that will leave you feeling utterly broke in the most profound way possible.
Set in the Scottish Highlands, from the very first page of this atmospheric book, I was drawn into the lives of these people, each burdened with their own demons and struggles – Saul, the mother with an impossible choice, Blue, Missy & Fox… bejeezus! The layers of vulnerability that Cummins bestows upon her characters (and I haven’t even mentioned them all) make them achingly real, leaving you empathizing with their pain, shocked by their choices and rejoicing in their triumphs, even those you may find quite unlikeable!
What a story!
“All of Us Are Broken” tugs at your heartstrings and leaves you emotionally spent. This was my first foray into Fiona Cummins’ work, and it will most certainly not be my last.
Would I recommend this book? You bet I would. Fiona Cummins comes in like a wrecking ball with “All of Us Are Broken” and I loved every moment of this read! If you’re prepared to be taken on a rollercoaster of emotions, to have your heartstrings expertly plucked, and to emerge from the experience forever altered, then this book is an absolute must-read.
You won’t come out unscathed, but I assure you, it’s an experience you won’t regret. Highly recommended!
